Unstuck in a minute.

A quick start, fixes for the things that usually go wrong, and a direct line for everything else — bugs, questions, and game formats Overset should learn to read.

Quick start

  1. 1

    Open Overset

Click the toolbar icon to open the side panel (Firefox: the sidebar), or open the web app. “Open in a tab” gives the extension the full workspace.

  2. 2

    Start a project

Paste from Google Sheets or open an .xlsx, .csv or .tsv; drop in game files or a folder; choose Use the open Google Sheet in the panel; or, in the extension, start from a game folder, GitHub, Crowdin or Weblate. Not ready? The two demo projects on the home screen exercise every feature.

  3. 3

    Work the list

Ctrl + Enter saves and jumps to the next string that needs work; Ctrl + K opens the command menu. When you’re done, Export writes your files back, Paste back into the sheet hands you the column, or a connection can write the cells, open a pull request or write into the game folder.

Seventeen seconds of Overset: a label measured as it’s typed, the overflow, the fix, and a sheet sync.

If something’s off

The fixes for what people run into most. Your projects never reach us, so the backup is the one thing only you can keep.

My projects are gone

Projects live in the browser profile you made them in. A private window forgets them when it closes (Overset warns you when it detects one), and uninstalling the extension or clearing site data deletes them. Open your latest backup with “Open a project file” on the home screen.

The panel stopped following my cursor in Google Sheets

Following the selected cell reads the structure of Google Sheets’ page, which Google can change without notice. Syncing and paste-back keep working when it breaks. Let us know so it can be fixed in an update.

Firefox won’t load my sheet

Firefox grants access to Google Sheets the first time you use it, not at install. If you dismissed the prompt, open about:addons, choose Overset, and allow its site permissions under Permissions.

Claude or DeepL doesn’t work

Check that the key is saved (Claude in the project’s Settings, DeepL under Connections) and that the project’s Confidential switch is off, which turns both off. In the web version neither is available; use the extension.

A connection says it couldn’t reach the service

The first time you use a connection, your browser asks permission to reach that service. If you declined, open Settings → Connections and try again, or in Firefox open about:addons, choose Overset and allow the site under Permissions. Services that ask Overset to slow down are waited out and retried automatically, so a short pause isn’t an error.

GitHub or Google sign-in isn’t offered

Sign-in appears when the build you installed has it set up. GitHub always lets you paste a token instead: a classic token with the public_repo scope (repo for private repositories), because fine-grained tokens can’t open pull requests on repositories you don’t own. For an organization’s private repositories, the organization may need to approve Overset first.

Some cells weren’t written to my sheet

Overset skips any cell someone else changed since your last sync, and lists their text next to yours so you can decide. It also skips rows whose key no longer matches (rows were inserted or deleted), and cells that are protected. Sync again, then write the ones that remain.

The game folder isn’t offered, or won’t open

Starting from and writing to a game folder works in Chrome and Edge only. If your browser refuses a folder (some system folders are off limits), you can open it read-only. If the game has a file locked, Overset says so; close the game and write again. Every file it replaces is copied into .overset-backup first.

I see a warning about two tabs

The same project is open in two tabs or windows, and saving in both would overwrite one with the other. Close one of them and carry on in the other.

A file didn’t import, or an export looks different

Send us the file, or a trimmed copy with only the lines that misbehave, plus the format and the game it is from. Please remove anything confidential first.

Helps to include
  • Overset version (this release is 1.5.0) and which connection, if any, was involved
  • Browser and version, and whether it’s the extension or the web app
  • The file format, or the sheet layout, and the game if it’s public
  • What you did, what you expected, what happened
  • A screenshot, or a trimmed copy of the file that misbehaves

Privacy requests (access, correction, deletion) go to the same address. There is very little to ask about: Overset itself never sends us your data.

Privacy: your name, email and message are used only to answer you. The form is delivered by Web3Forms to a Gmail inbox and kept while your request and any follow-up need it. See the privacy policy, or email alpyalay@gmail.com directly instead.

What’s it about?

Your browser and version, extension or web app, the file format, and the steps to see it.

Never include your API key. For NDA work, a trimmed sample is plenty.
